House & Garden Tours
Seven centuries of one family, and some of the most remarkable carved stone in Cornwall. Step inside on a small guided tour led by the family.
The House Tour
Place has been home to the Treffry family for over seven centuries, and the inside of the house is seen only by those who visit on a guided tour led by the family.
Tours are kept small, with no more than 15 guests, and last around 30 minutes. You will begin in Porphyry Hall, then follow your guide through the heart of the house, hearing the stories of the people who built, carved and lived in it.
Place has been described as astonishing. Its carving, inside and out, is unlike anything else in Cornwall, and it is a real treat to see it up close.
As Place is a private family home, photography is not permitted inside the house. Photographs in the gardens are very welcome.
The Gardens
The gardens of Place rise up the hillside around the house, high above the River Fowey. Wander at your own pace beneath tall pines, past the carved granite tower and Porphyry Garden, and look out over the rooftops of Fowey to the harbour and estuary beyond.
In spring the great magnolia beside the south front is in full flower, and the views are wonderful in every season.
Garden tickets are included with every house tour, or can be bought on their own.
