A Family Home Above the River Fowey
Place has been home to the Treffry family for generations, and it still is. Now, for the first time in its history, a new generation is opening the doors: to share the carved stone, the gardens and the stories of those who have lived and worked here.
Place is not a visitor attraction. It is our home, and every visit is hosted by the family, whether you join a house tour on one of our open days, arrive with a private group, or celebrate a special occasion in the grounds.
Private Groups & Shore Excursions
Place is a ten-minute stroll from Albert Quay, and we love hosting groups: cruise guests stepping ashore in Fowey, clubs and societies, and private parties of up to 200. Each visit is shaped around your guests, with a tour led by the family, time in the gardens, and the best of Cornish food, wine and music.
Weddings & Celebrations
Celebrate a wedding or a family occasion in the grounds of Place, with the River Fowey below and the carved towers of the house all around you.
The house itself is an intimate family home, so our celebrations take place outdoors and under canvas: a marquee on the terrace for up to 150 guests, or the small enclosed garden for gatherings of up to 60.
We take on only a handful of weddings each year, so please get in touch early to talk through your plans.
Plays at Place
On summer evenings the gardens become an open-air theatre, with the house and the church tower as a backdrop and the harbour beyond. Bring a picnic, a chair and a blanket, and join your neighbours for Shakespeare, Gilbert & Sullivan and more.
Visit Place
From March to November we open our doors on selected days for guided tours of the house, led by the family, and for visits to the gardens and Porphyry Hall.
Tours are small, with no more than 15 people, so that every visit feels like being welcomed into a home rather than a museum.
Tour booking opens in January 2027. Until then, you will find our opening days and prices on the Visit page.
